Creating a link from a word doc to a specific excel cell

Hi,

I'd like to create a link from a word document to a specific cell in a workbook sheet. I have tried \ work book address #gid=.'pagename -'!$A$160. which initially takes me to the correct cell but I get a pop up box saying "reference isn't valid" and when I put a different page name-cell ref it takes me back to the first cell referenced.

Is there any way I can do this easily and correctly please?

Hi,

That works for one link but when I try to add another link to an other cell it sets the original link to the new cell as well. Is there a way to do multiple link to multiple cells and keep them separate?

Also I'm not sure about doing this: Locate your Excel workbook and, in the Address box, type the defined name you created in Excel (e.g., "SalesTargetQ2").

As when I type only the defined name in the Address box I get an error message. If I use the address already in the address box (ie. my workbook address) the link takes me to the cell I've specified but I get the above problem.

To create multiple links to separate cells in an Excel workbook from a Word document, start by opening your Word document and positioning your cursor where you want to insert the first link. Right-click and choose Hyperlink or press Ctrl+K. In the "Link to" section, select "Existing File or Web Page" and locate your Excel workbook. In the Address box, enter the following formula, replacing the bracketed information with your details: =HYPERLINK("[C:\Users\Gowtham\ExcelFiles\SalesData.xlsx]SheetName!CellReference", "Display text for the link"). For example: =HYPERLINK("[C:\Users\Gowtham\ExcelFiles\SalesData.xlsx]Sheet1!A160", "Click here to view Q2 Sales Target"). Repeat these steps for each additional link, using the corresponding cell references and display text.

Hi,

Thank you for that answer but unfortunately I'm not getting that to work.

Am I replacing the whole address with the formula?

I have the text already typed out and am right clicking to add a link to the excising text.

I am then locating my workbook then replacing the address with the formula (changed to my info) provided. I just get an error message ' can't open relevant file'.

Sorry but this is just not working at all now. :(

I have the text already written out so I'm just adding a link to that.

I right click, add link then find my work book... then what do I do?

replace the whole address with

=HYPERLINK(“[U:\myWORKBOOKetc.xlsx]sheetname'!$A$144”)

This is just returning an error message.

or do I add =HYPERLINK("[ and ]sheetname!A144") to the workbook address?

Seems to be working.
