A demo program written in .Net 2.0 (MS Visual Studio.Net 2005) that demonstrate using the SerialPorts class to communicate via IRDA to a device. In the sample there's a notes.txt file that you can read for more info.

Demo program in VB.Net and Mono to follow shortly.

22/02/2008:

The serial port classes of Mono is incomplete so will skip that. Working on VB.Net demo version.

Please note: .Net compact framework have its own IRDA class: IRDAClient http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.sockets.irdaclient.aspx.
