Comments: Thank you for providing this information. What is the full name of the read-only attribute you are referring to? I was able to open the .dll file you attached, did it have the read-only attribute? You can attach another .dll that has the read-only attribute for us to investigate if that is indeed the problem.

The xml generated ends up being invalid as the < > in the generic type name don't get escaped.

Would also be nice if the output xml was pretty-printed rather than 1 big long line, but that's a minor thing.
Comments: I ran into this problem yesterday. When will the next build be coming out?

Is FDSS compatible with Word 2003 for exports? It seems to hang for me using Word 2003 but Word 2007 works fine.

Comments: Hi. I've solved the issue. The reason is ReadOnly attribute on assemblies. So you can't load assemblies with read-only attribute.

Comments: I've tried installing into the default folder. Nothing has changed. There's the same error. I've also tried using this prog on absolutry different PC with Windows Server 2003 x64 EE (with installing into the default folder). These's the same error. I think you should build in some logging capabilities into the prog to enable finding out what's wrong.

Comments: Looks like you do have all the required files. Could you try installing into the default directory instead of a custom one? Eg C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Framework Design Studio\ or similar as prepopulated during the installation.

Comments: Could you check the exes and dlls you have in the install folder, and also the "AddIns" subfolder? For example, in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Framework Design Studio\ I have: 1. FxDiff.exe 2. FDS.exe 3. Microsoft.FrameworkDesignStudio.Engine.dll 4. Microsoft.FrameworkDesignStudio.ExtensibilityModel.dll Then in the subfolder "AddIns", I have 5. Comments: I just tried running the 20080403 release. Project -> Add Assembly, then selected Common.logging.dll, and it loaded without an errors. (See screenshot). What OS are you running? And do you have .NET 3.0 (or above) installed?

COMMENTED ISSUE: Diff view should show assembly info

The diff view is good, but it should show the assembly information associated with the changes. For example, I compared one of my APIs where I had changed the name of two properties. The diff view clearly showed the changes, but I have no way of knowing which change is in which version.

The use of color is good, but you should also look at using some icons. The red/green colors aren't going to be visible to people who are color-blind.
Comments: When you selected the assemblies to compare, you are specifying which assembly to use as the "new" version, and which to use as the "old" version. In the diff view, what you see is what is currently in the "new" version. Green means the item was added (not present in the old version), while red means the item was removed (not present in the new version, but was present in the old version).

CREATED ISSUE: Adding multiple assemblies causes application crash

The problem is not perfectly reproducible, and I have not yet been able to isolate the circumstances under which it occurs. However, it has happened to me three times now, each time after I have just removed old versions of several assemblies, and am attempting to add new versions.
