Zone Tabs for SharePoint

Hi,

I have installed the .wsp and it appears to set up fine. However when I add the webpart and set up my tabs names they appear on the page as vertical bullet points rather then tabs when I hit the Apply button or view the page.

Intead of tabs I get:

tab1
tab2
tba3

I can click on them, and they work, but they are not tabs. Any ideas? Did I miss a key installation or set up step?

Hi,
I tried the ZoneTabs webpart in my Performance Point solution, and it does not work properly with the DashboardItemWebPart. I have two DashboardItemWebparts, one for each tab, but both are allways visible. Then, I tried to "ajaxify" the zonetabs and only the first time the page loads, both of them are visible at the same time, then if you start clicking the tabs, only the corresponding DashboardItemWebPart is visible (but cant see the report...I think this issue is related to the ajax behaviour). Any ideas or suggestions?
So far the workaround is to use a PageViewer WebPart inside the tabs, and these pages contain the Dashboard Items Webparts.

This is the version to use for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Response to the Beta was great - however no code changes were necessary, so there is no need to upgrade if you installed the "Beta"; this released version is identical.

UPDATE: Someone requested more tabs - for source code users this is easy (change the constant in ZoneTabs_Constants.cs). For convenience, there is a build w/12 tabs below called EasyTabParts_12Tabs.wsp. Please install one OR the other of the wsp files (the regular version has 6 tabs max). The web parts are otherwise identical; you should be able to redpoly from the other package for an in-place upgrade of existing ZoneTabs web parts.

Resource Page Description
The ZoneTabs web part provides a group of tabs that control other web parts in a zone, so users can view them in groups rather than scrolling.

As a code sample, ZoneTabs illustrates:
- Creating a ListView server control
- Creating a web part as a composite control
- Using cascading style sheets and images to render tabs
- Creating an editor part to provide custom configuration options
- Using the ASP.NET 2.0 API to manage and control web parts at runtime

NOTE: I wrote this web part in my spare time, and have a day job. The web part is not supported. Although I very much appreciate knowing about any problems you may encounter, and will probably eventually try to fix them, if you need quick turn-around I suggest engaging a SharePoint developer who can maintain the source code on a schedule that you find acceptable. Okay, figured this one out. I had two report viewers on the page, and it turns out there's a bug in SharePoint that does not save the Title property for either the Report Viewer or the Report Explorer web parts. Since the Title property appears to be used by the Zone Tab web part to associate the child web parts to the individual tabs, this was causing a problem (since I had two web parts with the same title - 'Report Viewer', even though I had renamed them). Ultimately, my solution (unfortunately) was just to remove the second report viewer from the page.

First, I want to say thanks for an excellent web part! It was simple to install and activate. However, I am having a problem adding Report Viewer web parts to the tabs. Specifically, when modifying the Zone Tab web part, I click the check-box under my Report Viewer web part for a particular tab and click Apply/Save, and the box simply becomes un-checked. I have tried both a connected Report Viewer (i.e. connected to a Report Explorer), and a standalone one. Is this web part simply incompatible with the Zone Tabs?

I found that the left image of the selected tab didn't change.

the following css should be control the left image of the selected tab but it's no effect whatever I changed.

I have unzipped the ZoneTabs20.zip file and copied the EasyTabParts folder and the EasyTabParts.wsp file to our SharePoint MOSS 2007 application server. They are in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\nuhsp_setup\My Documents\Web Parts\. I have tried running stsadm on the .wsp file in the root folder and the one in the Solutions folder in the unzipped folder.

I have tried running C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN>stsadm -o addsolution -filename C:\Documents and Settings\nuhspsetup\My Documents\Web Parts\EasyTabParts.wsp and C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN>stsadm -o addsolution -filename C:\Documents and Settings\nuhspsetup\My Documents\Web Parts\EasyTabParts\Solution\EasyTabParts.wsp but I am just getting the error "Command line error." Am I doing something wrong or stupid?

Is there a way to add specifications for the Easy Tab Web Part to the CDATA section of an onet.xml file? I am configuring a page that using the Easy Tab web part in a single zone with several other web parts. The goal is to make this dummy proof so users don't have to add and configure the Easy Tab web part. I have all the web parts loading, but not sure what the proper code needed to insert the CDATA for the Easy Tab web part. Any help would be appreciated.

I have two tabs, the second tab of which is connected to a search results web part. Upon clicking the search button, the page refreshes, but the first tab always takes the focus. Is there any out-of-the-box way to focus a specific tab once the page refreshes?

Hi, I noticed that when you minimize the zonetab webpart, only the tabs get minimized. It would be nice if it could also minimize all the webparts contained in the tabs (but not the ones that are in all tabs though because they are always visible). Could anyone help me achieve that?

I am using the tabs in SharePoint (love the web part, works great). I am trying to get it so a user can bookmark any tab they choose an directly link to it if need be. Any help would be great.

Yes, if you go into the "ZoneTabConstants.cs" file and at the top it says "public static int MaxTabs = 6", just change the 6 to 8, save, rebuild and redeploy.
