  • Sample app does not play the videos
    5 Posts | Last post March 02, 2015
    • When trying to run the sample app, I am getting Error code 4 - Unsupported video type of invalid file path.
Has anyone been able to run the app successfully.

    • I had the same problem. - Unsupported video type of invalid file path.
After 10 hours of troubleshooting, I found a solution:
      Uninstall Hyper-V.
After that it works for me.
    • Is that really the best answer at this time? Uninstall Hyper-V?

That sounds like a bit of hack, considering you won't be able to run a VM.
    • I found the answer to my problem:

You need to add the Playready and Smoothstreaming SDK as references to the project, otherwise you'l receive a code 4 error from player.
    • Thank you Dave, this works for me !

    • I'm having the same experience as some of the above posts:
1.- With the examples "out of the box", when trying to run I get the error: Could not find SDK "Microsoft.Media.PlayReadyClient, Version=2.8.1947.0" <= this is solved by removing that reference from the project, downloading and installing the lates PlayReadyClient from MS and adding the new reference to the project (in my case: Microsoft.Media.PlayReadyClient, Version=2.11.2154.0.
2.- Once problem 1 is solved, the project compiles and runs correctly (compiled explicitly for x64 as my machine is x64, also tried in ARM debugging in a Microsoft Surface RT 1)
3.- When trying to play .ism or pyv i get the following error: "Unsupported video type or invalid file path" in the player window or "MEDIA12899: AUDIO/VÍDEO: unknown MIME type." in the VS2013 output window.

      Please Microsoft, help us.

    • Just as a side note: I tested in a Virtual Windows 8.1 Machine (Virtualbox) (x64), In a physical Windows 8.1 machine (x64) and in Microsoft Surface RT 1.0 (ARM)
  • Build failed

    • I have installed all required SDKs, but still got the following error. How can I resolve it?

      C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\12.0\bin\Microsoft.Common.CurrentVersion.targets(1864,5): error MSB3774: Could not find SDK "Microsoft.Media.PlayReadyClient, Version=2.8.1947.0"
    • I deleted the reference and re-added it and it started working.
  • Video in PlayReady does not work

    • Hi, is there somebody, who can play PlayReady media with this sample app?

When I try to open project, I have some problems with reference Microsoft.Media.PlayReadyClient. I downloaded the required client from this <a href="http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/0170c67c-c183-4fee-8dd4-c2b44d710d40">site</a>. But it seems as different, which is required for this sample app.

When I run the application and click to play ISM, I get:
Error: Unsupported video type or invalid file path.
      Playback failed
The media element error event was thrown: 4
      extended error code: 0x80040154
  • Play ISM will not play video

    • When I click on the "Play ISM" button in this application, the video does not play and I see an "Unsupported video type" error. The onServiceRequested event handler is never called.
